In 2020, when Ford opened the order banks for the new Bronco, I placed my order. Like thousands of other buyers, I waited nearly two years for it to arrive.

I originally ordered the Bronco with a hard top because I planned to carry our surfboards on a roof rack. Because of Ford's manufacturing delays, our Bronco was delivered with a soft top instead. That completely changed the plan.

With our growing family, putting surfboards inside the Bronco wasn't practical anymore, and leaving them at home wasn't an option either.

Some people would have suggested buying a different vehicle.

"That was never an option."

I had waited almost two years for the Bronco I'd always wanted, and I wasn't going to replace it simply because no one had built a better way to carry surfboards. Instead, I asked myself a different question:

"Why doesn't a solution already exist?"

When I couldn't find one, I walked into my garage and built the first RadRack using PVC pipe and whatever materials I had on hand.

I didn't invent RadRack because I wanted to start a business.

"I invented it because my family needed it."

From the very beginning, one design requirement never changed. The rack had to mount only to the rear spare tire while allowing the Bronco's swing gate to open exactly as Ford designed it. Our Bronco still needed to function as the family vehicle we had waited years to own. If the rack compromised the everyday usability of the Bronco, it had failed its purpose.

That philosophy has guided every version of RadRack ever since.

What started as a garage-built solution for my own family eventually became RadRack — the world's only patented rear over-the-tire mounted surfboard rack.
